Kari's boyfriend stated to James that he was asleep when the fire broke out on the second floor of the house. He said that he had been forced to jump from the window because the flames have blocked the stairs leading to the first floor.

Dispatchers learned that there were four more people trapped inside during the call. Firefighters used ground ladders to go to the second floor. Stephen Orr, Rock Community Fire Captain, said that they found four dead adults inside while doing a secondary search.

Fifteen fire departments from Jefferson and Washington County have assisted with the blaze. At around five in the morning, fire crews were able to get the flames under control.

Based on Missourinet, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office are still investigating the accident's cause. A GoFundMe page was organized for the family.
