An unexpected disaster occurred on what should have been one of the best days of the lives of the bride, groom, and their family and friends. A British couple, Emma and Stuart Seaton's supposed honeymoon in Disney a couple of days after the wedding ceremony turned into a nightmare when Emma, along with 28 of their wedding guests, got food poisoning after their wedding in London, according to a Newsweek report.

The couple celebrated their wedding at the Manor at Bickley in Bromley, London. After the wedding, the bride and 28 other guests reported similar symptoms of headache, fever, and eventually falling sick. Emma and Stuart picked the venue for their wedding in 2018. They decided based on the positive reviews they heard about the location after two years of wedding planning. Despite a long wedding planning period, there was an unexpected turn of events when the wedding reception caused food poisoning for several people.

The Honeymoon

The couple's honeymoon itinerary included a trip to Los Angeles, then a visit to Disneyland, California, two days after the ceremony. After which, the couple would go on a Hawaiian cruise. However, Emma had a stomachache while on their flight to California, which later developed into a fever and stomach cramps.

Unfortunately, the health issues had just progressed, and Emma suffered from headaches, painful stomach cramps, and dehydration. This eventually led to even weight loss and disrupted sleep. The health problems continually progressed during their holiday that Emma had to use the bathroom every 20 minutes. The couple was unable to use public transport due to the discomfort that Emma was experiencing. Instead of enjoying the honeymoon they had planned for so long, they had to access toilets every so often. Emma's condition also made the couple spend more on taxi transport.

Food Poisoning

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in six Americans suffers from foodborne illnesses such as food poisoning. It may result when the food is contaminated with infectious bacteria or toxins. When food is handled and cooked incorrectly, food contamination may occur.

While in the States, the couple was receiving messages that some of the wedding guests also fell ill and exhibited symptoms. The couple also sought the help of the law firm Leigh Day to take legal action against the wedding venue on behalf of the couple and the guests who fell sick after the wedding. According to a Public Health England report, the food poisoning was most likely caused by a campylobacter infection. The bacteria was probably from the chicken liver pate served at the reception. Campylobacter infection is one of the most common causes of diarrhea in the U.S. According to Leigh Day, the law firm was able to secure a settlement for the couple and the other 28 guests.
