For Chicago mom Rosellene Bronstein, school principal Randall Dunn should be fired from his job and never take up a top post in school because he did nothing to protect her son, Nate Bronstein, who died by suicide in January 2022 after he was relentlessly bullied in school.

Rosellene found out that Dunn is moving to another top private school, Rye Country Day School in Westchester, in the coming school year after serving as principal of the Latin School of Chicago since 2011. She warned the Westchester community, especially the parents, that Dunn "does not care about students" and should not be even holding a job as a school administrator, per the New York Post.

The Chicago mom who wanted the principal fired has lodged a $100 million lawsuit against Dune, other school officials, and some parents. She alleged that those involved were aware of the harassment Nate endured from the other kids, but they hid the incidents to "maintain their prestigious façade." Latin School of Chicago is one of the city's most expensive private schools.

Why Nate Bronstein Was Bullied

In an interview with CBS News, Nate's parents said they were never told their son asked to meet with the dean of students in December 2021 to report that schoolmates had been bullying him. He wanted to show proof of the harassment, especially with the taunting he got online.

Nate was a new student entering the Latin School of Chicago in the fall of 2021. His parents said that he was ostracized "almost immediately" in school, but they were not aware of the extent of the situation.

A student started a rumor that Nate was not vaccinated, which was further from the truth. Despite this, he was still bullied in school regularly.

The Bronsteins said that they attempted to talk to the families of the other students, but this worsened the attacks on their son. One teacher allegedly even told Nate that his life would go nowhere.

The Chicago mom said she also got in touch with a counselor, but instead of helping the family, the school worker downplayed their concerns. In October and November 2021, the mother contacted the school officials more than two dozen times, but she felt they had turned a blind eye to their concerns.

She also raised concerns that her son was ignored because he was a white Jewish kid. The mother implied that had Nate been black, the school would have handled his complaints differently.

Nate's father found him in the bathroom, tied to a noose in the shower. The family said that Latin School of Chicago should have made efforts to investigate their complaints and notified the parents.

Rye Country Day School Issues Statement

In October 2021, Rye Country Day School announced that Dunn would head the school beginning July 2022.

Following Rosellene's warning, the school also issued a statement to say that they have looked into Nate's bullying and suicide case and the reports against the principal. They are still backing Dunn as they have found no evidence that his employment would be detrimental to the safety of the school community.

"Mr. Dunn has an exemplary, 30-year track record as a compassionate and ethical educator, and we look forward to him joining RCDS," a spokesperson said.

Latin School of Chicago, on the other hand, is ready to defend the lawsuit with their lawyers declaring that the parents' accusations have been "inaccurate and misplaced."
