Christine Brown finally found the courage to tell her "Sister Wives" plans on leaving Kody Brown, her husband, for good. The TLC star announced the shocking news on this week's episode of the reality series. The 50-year-old TV personality told Meri, Janelle, and Robyn Brown that she wanted to end her plural marriage, per People.

She added it's no secret that she and Kody have been in a rough spot for some time now. She told the other women that leaving her husband was a hard decision, but she realized that she needed to make a choice that would make her happy and provide peace in her life. She noted there hadn't been a lot of hope at all when she was in such a set-up unless she would leave.

Christine felt strongly that leaving and ending the relationship was the best choice for her. The third wife of Kody Brown announced last November that her spiritual marriage to Kody was over, and in September 2021, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and now lives with her daughter, Truely, 12. The former couple is also parents to a son, Paedon, 24, and daughters, Aspyn, 27, Mykelti, 26, Gwendlyn, 20, and Ysabel, 19.

The news of the split still came as a surprise to the other wives

While the marriage of the two hadn't been functioning well for some time, the breakup news still came as a surprise to the other wives. Robyn, the fourth wife, later admitted that the news completely blew her mind, adding that she didn't know what to say. She thought it didn't make sense at the moment. She told others that she had been through a divorce and knew what it meant, but the split between Christine and Kody is not just about three kids and a husband and a wife.

The fourth wife told Christine that the split was about 18 kids, spouses, and grandbabies, and the five of them connected and committed to each other, noting that the TLC star was ruining the family due to her selfish decision. Meri, the first wife, later told the cameras the big announcement made her unhappy and mad at the same time as she was still processing the news in her head.

Hence, Janelle, the second wife, who remained closest to Christine, knew that big changes were headed for their family, adding that it was difficult to assume something and then actually have it happen, per ET Online.

Kody had struggled to accept the split

The man with four wives, Kody, admitted that he had difficulty accepting that Christine wanted to end their marriage but acknowledged that it had been a long time coming. He thinks that their relationship, which had been rough for quite some time, made his third wife have a change of heart regarding the plural marriage.

He also revealed that Christine needed a level of attention that he thought she couldn't receive in the plural marriage. According to the Insider report, Christine experienced jealousy when Robyn entered the family on season one of the reality show, especially when she learned that her husband helped pick out Robyn's wedding dress.
