California Father Delivers Baby In a Parking Lot

An Elk Grove, Calif. man was forced to deliver his fifth baby in a Sam Club's parking lot close to the highway late on Friday night, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Josephine Rosales was not due for another three weeks, but unexpectedly went into labor pains soon after her husband, Fritz Rosales, returned from a business trip in Japan. Late Friday evening, Fritz found himself with an empty gas tank as his wife tried to quell her labor pains in the backseat while on their way to Sutter Memorial Hospital in east Sacramento.

There was a 80 to 90 car train passing through in front of them, according to Rosales, who had just gotten onto Grant Line road, and just when the train was out of sight, another one appeared.

The couple were forced to wait for the cars to pass before they could continue on as midnight approached. As luck would have it, Rosales found himself behind a slow driver, who he quickly sped around.

However, as soon as the couple reached Highway 99, it became apparent that this new baby wasn't going to wait any longer. Rosales got off the freeway and pulled into an empty and well lit Sam's Club parking lot.

"The baby was crowning," he told The Bee. "I still had 911 on the line. I told them, 'I have to put the phone down.'"

Surprisingly, the delivery of the baby happened fairly easily.

"[Josephine] pushed really hard, and the baby squired out," Rosals said.

A mere 3 minutes elapsing between the baby's birth and Fritz's 911 phone call. After a moment of tense silence where the newborn wasn't crying, fluid was expelled and it soon began to cry.

It was then that the couple first discovered that their new child was a boy, who they named Alexandre Miguel Rosales. A fire engine arrived moments later, the newborn having been wrapped safely in a sweater.

This was not the first time Fritz Rosales helped deliver a baby, as he had experience in the delivery room for three of his other children's births.

"The baby is good," Josephine said. "Dad did a good job."
