Another Marvel film will hit the big screens next year. This time, fans will have to take a break from the Avengers and welcome the Sorcerer's supreme "Doctor Strange," who will be played by "The Imitation Game" star Benedict Cumberbatch.
Marvel Studio's "Doctor Strange" has already begun filming per Yahoo! Finance. Thus, it will not take long and fans will soon see Cumberbatch's first look in the film. Even before Marvel released official photos of the film, there's already a leaked photo of the lead star on set circulating online.
A Twitter user named Prayush Khadka (aka @Technicalyright) posted a photo of Cumberbatch in mid-scene where he was surrounded with members of the crew and some filming equipment. In the said snapshot, the actor is sporting something similar to "Doctor Strange's" trademark facial hair. The user captioned the image with "Benedict cumberbatch in Nepal...shooting for #drstrange #movie #cumberbatch"
The Nepal set on the scene seems to suggest that the film will indeed follow the character's story from its comic-book origin. This includes his adventure to the Himalayas to search for a mystical cure that could potentially cure his injuries that cut his career short.
Parent Herald previously reported that Cumberbatch will play a very dark sorcerer supreme in "Doctor Strange." The character's first look was first revealed at a Disney press conference held in Africa. The mock-up costume featured an attractive and menacing Cumberbatch, which gained positive reviews among fans.
Director Ben Davis told ScreenDaily that "Doctor Strange" will have a psychedelic grounding and the film will not be a typical Marvel action movie. Although Davis declined to tell more about the film, he reveals something about it, "I think it'll be really interesting, and it's a very dark movie, I'm pleased to say."
The film will revolve around the story of a former neurosurgeon Stephen Vincent Strange (Cumberbatch) who takes his journey into the mystical world after a terrible accident to seek for a potential treatment. He will eventually become the Earth's protector against magical threats and villains.
"Doctor Strange" has a powerhouse-supporting cast that includes Michael Stuhlbarg as Doctor Nicodemus West, Tilda Swinton as the mysterious figure popularly known as "The Ancient One" and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Doctor Strange's enemy Baror Mordo. Rachel Adams will be the female-lead, but as of now, no details about the role have been known.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stuhlbarg's role was kept hidden in the astral plane. "Doctor Strange" will mark the actor's first adventure into comic book movies. The "Boardwalk Empire" actor is known for his dramas. However, he is also skilled in bringing heart to lighter fare as what he did in "Men in Black 3."
"Doctor Strange" premieres on Oct. 28, 2016.
