Argentinean Miracle Baby Dies a few Months After First Birthday

An Argentinean miracle baby, who was found alive 12 hours after being declared dead and shifted to a morgue last year, died at the Hospital Provincial in Rosario, Argentina, Tuesday.

The little girl, Luz Milagros was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, after suffering a cardiac arrest. She fought for her life for more than 24 hours before succumbing to the deadly condition on Tuesday, regional newspaper La Nacion, reported.

The one-year-old girl died due to "multiorgan failure and disseminated intravascular coagulation, which then led to shock," Leonardo Caruana, Municipal Health Secretary, said, while confirming the news to the newspaper.

The girl was a premature baby, born at 26 weeks on April 26, 2012. Milagros, who weighed only 1.5 pounds at birth, caught headlines after she was declared stillborn by the doctors at the Perrando hospital, Resistencia in Chaco, but was found alive, in a wooden box refrigerated in the morgue.

Inspired by the miraculous incident, the girl's parents Fabian Veron and Analia Bouter from Fontana named their bundle of joy Luz Milagors, meaning 'Miracle Light'.

"I went with Fabián, my husband, at around 9pm to see her body,"Bouter toldTelegraph, that time. "We opened the drawer and I touched her hand. I felt her look at me and when I saw her alive I fell to my knees. Then suddenly she let out a cry. She was freezing in there."

The girl was kept under medical supervision for five months before returning home in Aug. 2012. However, the girl still suffered from health issues related to premature birth and went through some neurological problems since then.

Though her health improved considerably over the past one year- gained six kilos and started breathing without any assistance- she had a series of health related complications including hearing loss, mobility restriction and neurological problems.

As doctors recommended the parents to take their daughter to China for stem cell treatment, they got busy conducting campaigns to raise the huge amount ($60,000) required for the treatment. However, the baby breathed her last just a few months after her first birthday.
