First Response Unveils Bluetooth-Enabled Pregnancy Test: Is It Worth $20?

Pregnancy tests have now been available for the longest time and how they work has been left massively unchanged over that time period. Now first response will incorporate Bluetooth technology into these tests, which they say makes them more efficient.

This new product is called the First Response Pregnancy Pro. It will cost anywhere between $15 to $20 depending on where you buy it. It was unveiled in this year's Consumer Electronics Show and raised eyebrows for being more or less three times the price of a regular pregnancy test. Multiple news outlets such USA Today have also reported on the product but were not big fans of its price point. They compared its $15 to $20 price to two regular pregnancy tests, which only cost about $10.

The device looks like a traditional pregnancy test with the notable exception that it does not have a plus or minus symbol anywhere on it. Instead, it only has a small screen which indicates whether or not it is paired with your compatible device via Bluetooth.

In order to use the device, the user must first download the First Response Pregnancy Pro app onto their smartphone. This application will allow them to see the results of their test.

According to Engadget, "The app first asks you a couple easy questions: are you actively trying to get pregnant or not, and the first day of your last menstrual cycle. It uses the answer of the first question to change the experience you'll have as you go through the app."

The way it uses the answers to these questions is actually ingenious. If you answer that you are trying to get pregnant but unfortunately, are not, the app will guide you to resources to improve your chances on your next try.

The wait time is reportedly the same as a traditional pregnancy test. You will have to wait three minutes after using it. However, it gives more than just a Bluetooth notification. The Pregnancy Pro also gives the user estimated delivery dates and other useful information.
