Eva Longoria, America Ferrera Owned The 2016 Golden Globes: ‘Desperate Housewives’ And ‘Ugly Betty’ Stars Make Witty Stand For Latina Entertainers

Eva Longoria and America Ferrera took the Latina entertainment joke delivered by "The Office" co-creator Ricky Gervais at the 2016 Golden Globes and ran away with it. The splash they made surprised the 'Ugly Betty' and 'Desperate Housewives' conspirators.

"It has caused such a macro conversation!" says the "Telenovela" executive producer and star Longoria. "But that was a moment in which there's truth and jest and I think it went over very, very well."

When Longoria and "Superstore" headliner Ferrera received their respective copies of the Golden Gobes script, they decided to be proactive and come up with a plan with their shows' writers. Luckily, Entertainment Weekly reports, "Superstore" writer and executive producer Justin Spitzer and Ferrera were able to tap the potential of Longoria and Ferrera's presenting segment.

They capitalized on how people commonly mistook Longoria for Ryan Gosling's baby mama Eva Mendes and on Ferrera being mistaken for "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Twitter - twice, according to Page Six. They also gandered a dig at how people generally cannot seem to tell, or bother to tell, Latina actresses apart.

"Well, actually, Justin and I were throwing ideas around. I went to Justin and said what's going to be funny here? We went back and forth with it, and then Justin came up with the idea to play on what happened," explained Ferrera on the resulting Globe script inclusion.

Spitzer, however, was quick to bestow credit where credit was due and said that Ferrera did most of the writing. "She's very modest," he remarks.

Longoria and Ferrera became fast friends when they headlined for ABC's 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Ugly Betty', respectively.

Here is the witty spiel that Longoria and Ferrera delivered:

"Hi, I'm Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes," Longoria began.

"And Hi, I'm America Ferrera, not Gina Rodriguez," Ferrera said.

"And neither one of us are Rosario Dawson," Longoria says brightly.

"Well said, Salma (referring to Salma Hayek)," praises Ferrera.

"Thank you, Charo," was Longoria's finishing salvo.
