The headless body of 10-year-old Denis Rodi was found today on Sinakut Beach in Lahad Datu, Sabah, after a deadly crocodile attack. The boy had been playing in the shallow waters with friends on October 13 when a large saltwater crocodile snatched him.

Police reports confirmed Denis's body was found around 9:26 a.m., roughly 600 meters from where the attack took place. His right hand and head were missing, further highlighting the ferocity of the crocodile attack. His remains were taken to Lahad Datu Hospital.

According to wildlife officer Silvester Saimin, Denis's family had brought the children, aged between five and 10, to the beach to bathe. Denis, who was in the middle of a group of children, was mauled and dragged into the water by the crocodile. His stepfather filed a police report at the Desa Kencana Police Station, and search efforts were launched immediately, DailyMail reports.

A Second Tragic Incident in Weeks

This tragic attack occurred less than a month after the death of 6-year-old Cicilia Julan Intik, who was similarly dragged away by a crocodile while bathing in a river on Bintulu Island on September 18. Her remains were found inside a crocodile caught from the river days later.

Crocodile attacks are common in Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak and Sabah, where saltwater crocodiles thrive in rivers and coastal areas. Fishermen, villagers, and tourists are often at risk when venturing near these habitats.

Lahad Datu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail, expressed deep concern about the dangers posed by the crocodile population. "The tragic loss of Denis reminds us of the need for continued vigilance in these areas," he said.

As the Lahad Datu community mourns the loss of young Denis, authorities continue emphasizing the importance of caution when near crocodile habitats.
