"The Big Bang Theory" will finally introduce Leonard's dad after nine seasons. The "Taxi" actor Jude Hirsh has been cast to play Leonard Hofstadter's dad in the upcoming season.
Movie Pilot revealed that another family member has been added to the growing cast of "The Big Bang Theory." Despite being mentioned several times for the past nine seasons, Leonard's Dad has never been cast. Leonard's dad is known to be an anthropologist who bottles his affections towards his son. He is said to have been divorced from Leonard's mom after he was caught cheating with a waitress at the Princeton cafeteria.
With Johnny Galecki's (Leonard) recommendations, "The Big Bang Theory" will now see Leonard's dad. The announcement was made during PaleyFest last Wednesday, where Galecki announced himself the casting of Jude Hirsch. During the Los Angeles television festival, Galecki shared how we proposed the role to Hirsch.
According to Telegraph UK, Galecki cornered Hirsch during the tribute event for James Burrows, who directed the pilot season of "The Big Bang Theory." He also admitted that Hirsch has been an inspiration to his portrayal of Leonard. Galecki said he is looking forward to working with this inspiration.
"I did share with him, and this is true, that when we were shooting the pilot [for Big Bang Theory] I watched the first two or three seasons [of Taxi]", Galecki shared with the audience. "Not because I wanted to base Leonard on his character, but the purpose that his character served in this group of people."
Executive producer Steve Molaro shared recently to Entertainment Tonight that "The Big Bang Theory" has still a lot of family members to meet -- Penny's Mom and Brother alongside Leonard's Dad.
"The Big Bang Theory" follows the story of four super intelligent but socially awkward men and their unusual friendship with their neighbor Penny, who is exactly opposite of what they are. Check out a clip from the last episode of the series:
