"Orange is the New Black" Season 4 spoilers reveal that the Netflix drama will focus on pressing issues in today's society, as the show has done so far in the past three seasons. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show's cast shared the underlying themes and issues in the upcoming season.
"Danger is the underlying theme: racial tension and danger," said Selenis Leyva.
The actress, who plays Gloria in "OITNB," explained that the beauty of the show is being able to tackle different issues that are prevalent in today's society. Much of the issues are presented through the lead character, Piper.
"Orange is the New Black" Season 4 will take on the story of Black Lives Matter following a culture war in prison. According to the publication, this issue will be reflected through the harsh treatment cast upon inmates, particularly those from the black community.
"OITNB" Season 4 will also be introducing new characters - from inmates all the way to new prison guards. According to PopSugar, the show recently unveiled a teaser photo of a new prison guard named Desi Piscatella (Brad William Henke).
In the said photo, Desi can be seen wearing what appears to be a heavily fitted protective gear. Could this mean that the culture war in "Orange is the New Black" Season 4 is so bad that it requires this much of a protective gear?
Joining the cast of "Orange is the New Black" in Season 4 also include a Martha Stewart-alike character, a new inmate wearing a hijab and new prison guards. Jolene Purdy's recurring role also remains to be revealed.
"Orange is the New Black" Season 4 premieres on June 17 on Netflix.
