The third season of "Gotham" is overhauling a recurring character. Poison Ivy, who is currently played by young actress Claire Foley, will be recast in season three as a more mature femme fatale similar to how she was portrayed in the comics.
Foley's Ivy Pepper, an orphan obsessed with plants, will transform into Poison Ivy when season three rolls in. Back in May, Screen Rant described the character as a "young villainess who uses her sexuality to entrap men." In the comics, Poison Ivy manipulates men into doing her bidding by releasing pheromones.
Casting is currently ongoing for an actress in her late teens to take over Foley's role, according to a report from TVLine. It is likely that the more mature Poison Ivy will become a regular character on the series.
Hugo Strange's Monsters Will Change Gotham City
The second season of "Gotham" ended with Hugo Strange (BD Wong) releasing his reanimated monsters as instructed by his bosses, the antagonistic group called the Court of Owls. Development executive producer John Stephens said "the nature of the city of Gotham will change" because of the release of Hugo's creations. And that problem will be explored on the show's third season, TVLine further reported.
Season three will also introduce DC Comics' big baddie Mad Hatter/Dr. Jervis Tetch and Vicki Vale, a young and ambitious journalist who is Bruce Wayne's love interest in the comics. All these villains will take Bruce (David Mazouz) one step closer to his destiny as Batman. James Gordon (James McKenzie), meanwhile, will try to hold Gotham City together as the Caped Crusader isn't around yet.
More Villains Will Terrorize Gotham City
Stephens confirmed to ComicBookResources that other baddies from the Court of Owls will appear on the third season of "Gotham." This includes the Tweedle Brothers (a.k.a. Dumfree and Deever Tweeds), Talon/WilliamCobb and Solomon Grundy.
Stephens likened the Court of Owls to the Illuminati, saying that the former is a "shadowy group of powerful people" that has Gotham City in their clutches for centuries, ComicBookResources added. The group may be responsible for the tragic deaths of Bruce's parents as well.
Stephens also hinted the appearance of Bruce's long-haired and emo doppelganger. He described the character as "a development that is in line with all the other story we've been telling [in Season 2], but one piece that we've kept hidden," according to a separate report from TVLine. The third season of "Gotham" will air on Fox in fall 2016.
