Ray Allen has expressed his desire to stage an NBA comeback after stepping down in 2014. Just recently, there are rumors claiming that the 41-year-old player will return to the Milwaukee Bucks, and the team is just as interested in signing him again.
There aren't plenty of teams interested in signing Allen, but those who want him knows the advantages he could bring to the table, and that includes the Bucks. In a radio interview on 105.7 Fan, Bucks President Peter Feigin described Allen as a player "who gives this entire organization a great shot in the arm," adding that he is "in surprisingly good shape" to stage an NBA comeback.
Feigin revealed that Allen is having talks with Bucks GM John Hammond. If not with the Bucks, Feigin believes Allen would sign with the Boston Celtics.
The Bucks was Allen's first NBA team, playing for the organization for seven seasons. He was drafted by the team as their first pick or fifth overall in 1996. Allen's last game was with the Miami Heat in the 2013-14 season, scoring almost 10 points per game, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in his second year with the team, Chat Sports Net wrote.
Allen said in an interview with the Hartford Courant earlier this month that he still feels good and physically capable for a comeback to the NBA. He said he "would love" to play for either the Bucks or Celtics again "if it worked out," describing both teams as "good."
Allen played for the Celtics from 2007 to 2012. Aside from the Celtics and Bucks, the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly interested in signing Allen as well. Spike Lee, a prominent New York Knicks fan, is also trying to recruit Allen to the team.
At the moment, the Bucks only has 13 players with contracts for the upcoming NBA 2016-17 season, The Inquisitr reported. The team only signed four players this offseason: Mirza Teletovic, Miles Plumlee, and Matthew Dellavedova. Bucks also drafted Thon Maker and Malcolm Brogdon.
The Bucks has Dellavedova, Michael Carter-Williams, and Tyler Ennis as point guards. For shooting guards, they have Brogdon, Rashad Vaughn, and Khris Middleton, and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the small forward position. That depth chart, however, could change soon now that the team and point guard Ra'Shad James are finalizing a deal, according to the Journal Times.
The Bucks could also sign free agent Steve Novak. Mark Bartelstein, Novak's agent, said the player wants to play with the Bucks still and they're currently working out a deal.
