Bryan Fuller ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Showrunner Steps Down Due to Conflicting Schedule; Fuller Has Too Much on His Plate

Due to conflicts in schedule with his Bryan Fuller's other shows, Starz "American Gods" and NBC "Amazing Stories," Bryan Fuller had to step down as "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner. Despite the announcement, Fuller is still going to work as the executive producer of the series. The story will still continue, following Fuller's original plans of how the universe of the latest Trek series will work.

The "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner Bryan Fuller previously worked on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager." But juggling two other series and "Star Trek: Discovery" all at the same time is no easy feat, even though Bryan Fuller has completed penning the first two scripts for "Star Trek: Discovery" and has laid out the general story arc and mythology for the upcoming series.

Fuller decided, instead, to give up his role as "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner. The screenwriter and producer had too much on his plate. But no specific individual has been identified to replace "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner Bryan Fuller, but there have been plans to give it to Bryan's fellow executive producers Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg. Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman has also been rumoured to be part of the show's creative team.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will start filming next month and has a scheduled premiere date of May 2017. However, "Star Trek: Discovery" was previously scheduled for release on January 2017, but sudden turn of events delayed the show's release to May. Bu then, the show could no longer afford to push the schedule further than that.

Names for the cast members of “Star Trek: Discovery” have been kept secret, although the production team is still looking for somebody to fill the show's lead role, which is a female lieutenant commander. Budgeted at around $6–7 million, the allocation for the new Trek series “Star Trek: Discovery” is higher than that of “Star Trek: Enterprise” and somewhat comparable to that of HBO's “Game of Thrones.” With this working budget and a much-anticipated casting, fans are starting to get hyped with the latest Star Trek franchise “Star Trek: Discovery.”
