Benedict Cumberbatch spills some bad news for all the "Sherlock" fans. BBC's American-British TV show took three years to announce its release date on Jan. 1, 2017. But, nothing is more saddening than not seeing more of Sherlock Holmes and his partner in crime Dr. Watson after the season 4.
We loved the detective duo for their mental acuity in solving crimes. A lot is going on in the season 4, one of them is the possible comeback of Andrew Scott's villain and an adaptation of "The Dying Detective" in the series. Another spoiler to look forward to is Dr. Watson played by Martin Freeman and wife Mary's preparation for their first child. That would be an interesting addition to the drama.
Independent's report reveals that what sparked the rumors regarding its presumed finale is the Oscar nominee's comment "the end of an era." The British star stated the subtle comment in the November issue of British Q. This has caused the fans to get very concerned and are hoping that it's just a baseless news.
The 40-year old actor even added that he feels like they have already completed the story, and how much he wants to revisit it one day. He can't imagine being unable to play his character anymore because he truly enjoys his detective role.
Showrunners of "Sherlock," Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss released a statement as to why it could be the final season. Collider reported Steven Moffatt mentioned that they find it hard to imagine not doing more episodes, but they are being stretched in different directions.
Their interview with Comic-con reveals their schedule struggles. They have gotten busier and busier which puts the entire plot in God's hands. This interview seems to leave worried fans hanging but it is very obvious that the people behind the show are holding to continue.
The season four of the series is set to air in early 2017.
