Stimulus Check of $1,300 Set for Release As Rebate to Those Who Did Not Cash Their Checks

Thousands of Minnesota residents are eligible for a $1,300 rebate stimulus check as part of an initiative by the Minnesota Department of Revenue to redistribute funds to taxpayers who initially did not cash their checks.

Last year, the department sent out numerous checks as part of a tax refund, but approximately 128,000 of these were never cashed. Since the original checks have expired, the department has issued new ones to ensure the intended recipients receive their money.

How to Be Eligible for the Rebate Stimulus Check

The rebate stimulus check is part of the Minnesota Property Tax Refund (M1PR) program, which aims to provide financial relief to residents who paid property taxes in 2021. The program has a total budget of nearly $1 billion and has already issued approximately 2.1 million payments.

To be eligible for the rebate, residents must have submitted their M1PR application by August 15. However, applications will continue to be accepted and processed until August 15 of the following year. Refunds for applications submitted before the deadline will be processed by late September or early October, while those submitted after the deadline will be processed within 60 days.

The rebate amounts vary depending on the individual's filing status and number of dependents. Individuals filing singly are eligible for $1,300, while married couples filing jointly can receive an additional $520. An extra $260 is added for each dependent claimed, up to a maximum of three dependents.

What to Do If You Haven't Received Your Check

Residents who have not received their checks are advised to ensure that their address is current in the Minnesota Department of Revenue's system. They can contact the department directly to check the status of their refund.

The rebate stimulus check is a significant financial relief for Minnesota residents, helping to offset the property taxes paid. It also provides extra financial support during times of need, benefiting numerous families nationwide.

Residents can submit their application electronically to expedite the refund process. This could lead to faster processing and result in receiving their refund within 60 days of submission.
