The new HTC 10 has been unveiled this week. Reviews have been pleasant about the Android smartphone, with a special focus on its extraordinary camera. Let's see how the handset compares with the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Impressive Camera

Benchmarking outfit DxO Labs have tested the HTC 10's camera and placed it at the top of its DxOMark Mobile chart, noting that the device is "a great all-rounder for stills and video," Forbes reported. The HTC 10's 88-point score for its camera was a tie with the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The HTC 10 is equipped with a 12MP camera similar with the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6S. However, what makes the HTC 10 stand out is its larger sensor with bigger 1.55micron pixels, along with a wide aperture f/1.8 lens.

With this combination, the sensor's light-gathering ability is better and lessens unsightly image grain. The HTC 10 is the first smartphone to have optical image stabilization on both of its front and rear cameras, Forbes noted.

DxO Labs is pleased with its camera's level of detail in all lighting conditions, which is better than the Galaxy S7's. Samsung's current flagship, however, performs better at video due to its greater autofocus and image stabilization.

Design & Display

The HTC 10 has a 5.2-inch, quad HD Super LCD 5 screen display covered in Gorilla Glass, with curved edges that blend into the device's metal frame, the Verge reported. The smartphone's design is a combination of the HTC M9 and A9, with an all-aluminum body, large chamfered edges, and machined ports.

The Galaxy S7, meanwhile, comes with two screen display variants: a 5.1-inch model and a 5.5-inch version, Samsung's official website indicated. Its incredibly slim design allow for a bigger screen for browsing.

Performance & Other Specs

The HTC 10 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. Other notable specs are: 32GB of internal storage, microSD slot for expansion, 3,000mAh battery, AirPlay-certified speakers, and fingerprint scanner with a 0.2 second unlock time embedded in the home button. The device also supports Quick Charge 3.0 through the phone's USB Type-C port, the Verge wrote.

The Galaxy S7 also runs using a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. Other specs are: 3,000mAh battery, water resistant feature, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 32/64GB internal storage options, and a memory card slot expandable up to 200GB, Samsung's website listed.

Price

The HTC 10 can be purchased for $700, GSM Arena reported. The Galaxy S7, in contrast, starts selling at around $650.
