Rachel McAdams Confirmed To Star Opposite Benedict Cumberbatch In 'Doctor Strange' [Release Date, Trailer & Cast]

There have been talks about the "The Vow" star Rachel McAdams joining the cast of Marvel's "Doctor Strange." The actress was never shy to confirm reports that she is in talks with the production for a potential role.

Rachel told The Wrap on Monday that she will star in the said film opposite Benedict Cumberbatch. She will star alongside Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. The "Hannibal" star Mads Mikkelsen is being pursued by the team for a villainous role.

McAdams is currently occupied with several projects. The actress will appear in HBO's second season of "True Detective," boxing drama "Southpaw" opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and will star in Cameron Crowe's romantic comedy film "Aloha."

"Doctor Strange" is directed by Scott Derrickson and will start filming in November. During Disney's D23 fan convention, they awed the audience when they show the film's concept art, especially the first look of Cumberbatch.

The concept art was first shown in Disney's press conference held in Africa. Initially, according to htxt.africa, they were surprised how "Doctor Strange" was able to have its own movie when it's not as popular as Iron Man or Captain America. In fact, the more popular characters like Hawkeye and Black Widow did not rank enough to have one.

However, after witnessing the concept art and a couple stills of the upcoming horror flick, it was enough to change their mind. In fact, they described it as "dark, very dark." "While we're not expecting it to be a true blue horror film, but if it could provide as many chills as say Constantine (the TV series, NOT the film), then that would be great," they said.

As for the looks of Cumberbatch, many were pleased that he is very fetching and menacing. The actor appears to be perfect for the role.

Cinematographer Ben Davis shed light on the look of the titular character suggesting that it was influenced by the images of 20th century artist M.C. Escher, who is known for his mathematically inspired woodcuts and lithographs, ScreenRant has learned.

"It has a very psychedelic grounding, and it's not your typical Marvel action movie," said Davis, who believes the film could be Marvel's Fantasia. "I can't really say much more about it, I'm afraid. But I think it'll be really interesting, and it's a very dark movie, I'm pleased to say."

According to Time, the movie revolves around the story of a former neurosurgeon Stephen Vincent Strange (Cumberbatch) who begins exploring the mystical world following a terrible accident. He eventually becomes the Earth's protector against magical threats and villains.
