Parenting Styles & Tips From President Barack Obama: 'I Just Do What Michelle Tells Me To Do'

During a recent town hall event held with military families at Ft. Meade, President Barack Obama could not help but impart some parenting advice to the servicemen. The American president basically told his troops that they should learn to listen to their wives, according to Breitbart.

"I just do what Michelle tells me to do and it seems to work out," said the president after a military mom, who is serving as an instructor pilot, asked their commander-in-chief on how they are able raise their kids despite being the president.

"We're a strong believer in structure and rules, and unconditional love but being pretty firm, too," added Obama. He also said that early on, they have imparted structure and discipline to their children, Malia, 17 and Sasha, 15, especially when it comes to bedtime, TV watching and eating their vegetables.

"You'll sit there and eat your vegetables even if we have to sit there with you, watch you chew for 10 minutes and we're going to watch you swallow," the president candidly said.

Now that the girls are older, the president said that they seem to appreciate the rules that have been imposed on them. "The truth is the girls are wonderful," Obama said via Huffington Post. "You know they work hard, they work a lot harder than I ever did when I was a kid."

Meanwhile, the president couldn't help but be nostalgic about Malia who has finally entered her senior year. "Just yesterday, Malia started her first day of senior year. You know, I was sitting in her room because I was going to see her off her first day of school," Obama told the people present at the Maycomb County Community College in Warren, Michigan during his speech on free community college, the news outlet stated. "She puts her head on my shoulder and she says, 'Daddy, you know, you realize this is probably going to be the last time that you ever send me off for my first day of school.'"

Obama pretended to wipe tears as he told his story to the crowd and admitted he was being a crybaby. With Malia heading off to college soon, Obama said he's a bit freaked out at the idea.

According to People, Malia's college of choice is still unknown, but she may venture into television production or film. The teenager has had summer stints as an intern at TV shows like "Girls" and "Extant, according to US Weekly.
