How To Care For Sensitive Skin

Caring for sensitive skin does require some additional work due to the numerous issues that may inadvertently affect it. You obviously cannot put anything you want on your skin, and this does eliminate a number of options.

With that in mind, knowing the steps to follow in order to correctly care for sensitive skin makes sense. The good news for you is that it is easier than you may have anticipated. All you need to do is to follow the advice and tips that I am about to give to you.

Use Soap-Free Ingredients For Red Blotches

If you suffer from red blotches, then you need to steer clear of soap. What you need to do instead is to consider using soap-free ingredients. The best ones are those that also act as some form of natural anti-inflammatory.

There are other ingredients to avoid if your skin is feeling particularly sensitive at this moment in time. Avoid things with glycolic acid, peels, even products with Vitamin C. They will all make matters worse and the chance of your skin becoming even more sensitive will only increase.

Dealing With Allergic Reactions

When you have sensitive skin, then it will often appear as if you are more prone to allergic reactions. Obviously, you need to know how to deal with these reactions if they do occur.

The best approach is to use something as simple as a milk compress. All you need to do is to soak a cloth in a solution which is equal parts warm water and milk before wrapping the cloth on the affected area.

If you don't like the sound of using milk, then you do have other options available. Any product containing Aloe Vera is a good idea and you may also discover some creams for skin care available over the counter that contain cortisone can also make a difference.

As an aside, you may want to reduce your sugar intake. Sugar is known to cause inflammation in the body and that in itself can act as a trigger for allergic reactions.

Dealing With Very Dry Skin

Dealing with very dry skin is tough. This is then made even harder when you suffer from sensitive skin as you worry about the creams or ointments that you can then put on it.

The problem with dry skin is caused by your skin failing to produce enough oil. We also tend to wash our skin at least twice a day with products that strip away that oil.

To counteract this, I advise you to look at using a soap-free cleanser, and only look at washing with it once a day. Also, make sure you do not use a single product that has alcohol included in its production. Alcohol will only make your dry skin problem even worse.

At the same time, you may feel tempted into using an exfoliator and removing those dead skin cells. Well, don't.

What you need to do instead is to layer on a thick moisturiser and look at using one that contains the likes of peptides, ceramides and niacinamide. These are products known to improve the hydration of skin, and if your skin is more hydrated, then it's less likely to feel dry.

Dealing With Breakouts

Breakouts happen to everyone. It's one of those things that you cannot avoid. The key is in how you deal with it.

The first thing to do is to try to understand why a breakout happened. Have you been stressed? Have you changed products lately? Addressing the cause is a major step forward in dealing with the problem.

Make life easier by using only a mild cleanser rather than hitting your skin with anything harsh. Also, consider checking out Salicylic Acid. This will unclog pores and may stop the breakout from getting worse.

You do need to avoid any product that contains benzoyl peroxide. This is known to irritate and annoy sensitive skin, and that is the last thing that you want to happen.

Caring for sensitive skin requires some work on your part and becoming more aware of the different chemicals that appear in various products. It may become a case of trial and error as you look at discovering the things that irritate your skin, and you also need to reduce the harsh chemicals or regimes that annoy the skin.

Understanding your skin type makes life a whole lot easier. It means you can use the correct products and get the kind of glowing skin that you have always wanted. That alone is certainly a whole lot better than suffering with sensitive skin and all of the negative things that can come with it for the rest of your life.
