Henry Cavill's "Man of Steel 2" was rumored to be on hold before, but new rumors say that it's not, and that new characters are coming into the fray as well.
Heroic Hollywood reports that the sequel is coming, and has some exciting, albeit unconfirmed, details to date.
First of all, George Miller may still take a shot at directing the movie. If he wants to take it, Warner Bros. just might give it to him.
Next, the production for the sequel will start in a few years' time, with the show's target release in 2019 or 2020.
For the plot details, the Kryptonian will face Brainiac as a villain in the upcoming sequel.
According to Screen Rant, Brainiac, given his diverse set of powers and role in the overall DC universe, is an obvious choice for MOS2.
HH adds that Brainiac will be after a genetic codex that Superman had in MOS, the same one that General Zod was after. However, he is rumored to be retrieving it from another Kryptonian, Kara Zor-El.
Kara, more known as Supergirl, was scripted as "the most promising daughter of the House of El" in the prequel comic prior to the release of MOS. HH reports that she was planned to be introduced in the sequel, receiving much focus as Superman did.
The entertainment scoop site added that probably, this is the detail that got director Miller's attention in the first place, as he is attracted to strong female protagonists like Mad Max: Fury Road's Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron.
Furthermore, rumor has it that Brainiac, with bits of Kryptonian knowledge with him, creates Bizarro. Bizarro is then sent after Supergirl in the aims of retrieving the codex from her.
So far, this is the basic plotline that Zack Snyder and David Goyer gave as a sequel idea to WB after MOS was done. These details still need to be confirmed.
Slashfilm adds that the timeline that WB has for the DCEU movies still works. "Dawn of Justice" will come in 2016, "Wonder Woman" releases in 2017, and standalone movies for the caped crusader and the blue Kryptonian are to be released probably around 2020.
Slashfilm further explains that Batman, however, seems to be prioritized more than Superman. Ben Affleck is already lined up to direct, co-write, and star in Batman, and might even have a new Batman trilogy of his own. Superman, on the other hand, is unlikely to be removed, as he has major roles in the Justice League.
For the meantime, fans will have their superman fix in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice movie, on March 25, 2016.
