In the men's fashion world, beards are as popular as ever with the goal being a thick flowing beard that would put characters like Gandalf and Dumbledore to shame. While it's a dapper aspiration to have, one needs to understand that a lot more than genetics is at play when it comes to having a good looking beard.

You need to be meticulous with your care and set a daily beard care routine. Luckily, you don't need to worry about filling your tabletop with a range of products. All you really need is cleansers and a beard moisturizer. The rest is just being mindful and ensuring you don't do anything that would mess your beard up throughout the day.

CLEANSERS

If you're going to grow a beard, then you need to regularly clean and condition your beard. Not only is it hygienic and good for the skin underneath your beard, but it will also promote beard growth. It would be better if you didn't use regular shampoo and conditioner though. The synthetic chemicals would turn your beard really dry and itchy. The hair will be brittle and will be prone to breakage.

There are shampoos and conditioners that are made specifically for beards and you'll even find organic choices. Organic products are a better option as the lack of synthetic chemicals ensures a gentler cleansing of your beard, leading to softer and smoother hair.

You also need to be smart with how you dry your beard. While a cold hair blow dryer is the best option, you can also go with a towel but only if you pat dry your beard. Rubbing your beard will just lead to more curls, knots, and split ends.

BEARD MOISTURIZER

You also need to get something to moisturize your beard. Not only will it keep your beard looking shiny and clean, but you'll also be keeping your beard hair from drying out and turning brittle. You can go the traditional route and just use coconut oil or cedarwood oil. Both of these oils are great for moisturizing beards and also promote healthy growth of hair. You can also find balms and tonics, that have a more lasting effect than oil.

If you have naturally brittle hair, then you can also consider using a beard thickener, which comes in both cream and tonic form. However, you can't use it in combination with oil, balm, or tonic and you'll need to set alternate days or times on which you use each product.

COMB YOUR HAIR

Brushing your beard hair can go a long way not only in making your beard more presentable, but also in promoting hair growth. Using a cedarwood comb can actually stimulate hair growth as the soft wood of the comb massages the hair follicles on the skin.

You don't need to get anything too ornate though as a small comb is easier to carry around. If you're going to keep a full beard, then you need to keep a beard comb with you at all times. If you start to notice your beard is getting out of shape, whip out your comb and run it through your beard a couple of times.
