Coronavirus has been the hot topic of the month, and everyone is very cautious about contracting the disease and are now extremely vigilant when it comes to the symptoms. The virus came from China, and a lot of Chinese people have been diagnosed and infected with the virus.
One of these reported patients is a 27-year old pregnant mother who eventually gave birth while undergoing tests for Coronavirus.
This 27-year-old mother went into labor at Wuhan Union Hospital. The doctors decided to perform a cesarean section due to the possibly of the baby acquiring Coronavirus symptoms. The pregnant mother had been developing fever over the previous days and her coughing soon became non-stop.
The deputy director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Wuhan Union Hospital, Zhao Yin, was the one who led the cesarean operation on the woman. The deputy wore two protective suits, goggles, and a surgical face mask while he carried out the operation in an hour. It took an hour.
According to Zhao Yin, he could barely see or hear anything under everything he was wearing, and it was very difficult for him and his team to do the operation. He even mentioned he was all covered in sweat as a result of the two protective layers he was wearing during the operation.
In the end, a healthy baby boy was delivered. The baby weighed 3.1kg and according to reports, he was sent home immediately to avoid getting the virus which is more than likely lurking in the hospital. The mother of the baby is still under observation for both Coronavirus and her health condition after the hour-long surgery.
Xiaoyan, the mother of the baby (not her real name), was interviewed by the media after she had given birth. She said that she just wants her baby to be safe and live a healthy life. Thus, she agreed that her baby should be sent home immediately after labor.
Xiaoyan was only 37 weeks into her pregnancy when she was suspected of having Coronavirus. The 27-year-old woman was scared and immediately thought of her baby's safety and health. Although she is still not been confirmed as an infected patient of the said virus, she is still under keen observation at the hospital since she's been experiencing fever and endless cough.
The doctors also mentioned that they could not give her proper medication for Coronavirus, because she was pregnant, and they are afraid that it would affect the baby's health and development. That's why they performed a cesarean operation.
Coronavirus in China
As of now, the Coronavirus has led to fatal cases in China, killing at least 106 people and infected more than 5,000 people across the country. The number of confirmed cases has increased to 4,515 on Monday from 2,835 the previous day. Cities who have more than 50 million people have been on lockdown due to the outbreak of the said virus.
Other countries have also been reported to have confirmed patients of Coronavirus such as Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, Nepal. France, Germany, the United States, Canada, Sri Lanka, and Australia. And recently, the country of the Philippines has also reported patients that are undergoing observation believed to have been infected with the Coronavirus.
