It's all over the news how rampant and infectious coronavirus is. Coronavirus has recently been identified as an epidemic and has been continuously spreading every minute.
The coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China and has already infected almost 8,000 people worldwide. An estimated 170 people have already been confirmed dead because of this virus. People of all ages could catch the said coronavirus anytime, that's why it is important for everyone to be healthy and hygienic at this point.
However, the most vulnerable to the virus are children. Based on a demographic graph by doctors and medical institutes, children are the most at-risk to be infected with the virus.
These coronavirus reports have caused a worldwide panic to everyone, especially to parents. When it comes to protecting their children against diseases and viruses, parents can get very scared and would panic immediately.
However, panic is not a good solution. It will only make the situation worse and would even fright other parents. Just like coronavirus, panic can spread fast and easily, and it is important to keep our calm at times like this.
Parents should be able to protect their children the way they protect themselves against the virus. Always make sure your children and your whole family have good handwashing and hygienic routines, avoid going in public and crowded areas, and if you must, always wear a mask.
Avoiding physical contact with people is also one thing you must do. Make sure your kids understand the situation and help them be more conscious and aware of their surroundings. This way, you are not only protecting yourselves and your children, but you are also teaching your children how to be responsible for their own being at a time like this.
A lot of medical institutes, hospitals, doctors, and experts have advised the public to always practice precautionary measures that will help you protect yourselves. According to the World Health Organization and Healthychildren.org, here are some measures that parents and children can do for them to protect themselves against people who already been infected by coronavirus:
ALWAYS wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs. You can buy alcohol hand rubs and hand sanitizers at any mall, stores, or even pharmacies in your town. Parents should provide their children alcohol hand rubs and sanitizers in bottles or hand sprays for them to bring wherever they go. Keep soaps in the bathroom and in the kitchen sink and encourage your family to wash their hands frequently especially when they come home from school or before and after they eat.
Keep your children away from people who have been showing signs of sickness such as fever, coughs, and colds. These can be possible symptoms of a person infected by a coronavirus, and it's always better to be safe than sorry.
Teach your kids proper hygiene routines and practices that they can follow and apply themselves whenever they are not at home. This includes proper disposal of used masks and tissues and covering their mouths with a handkerchief when they cough or sneeze in public.
Always keep your home clean and tidy. Use disinfectant sprays especially on tight spaces and rooms where your children are always at.
Make sure when you prepare and cook food for your family and kids you use different chopping boards and knives when cutting meat and vegetables. Raw meats is said to be one of the sources of coronavirus, so make sure you prepare clean meat and prepare food in a clean and hygienic way. Make sure raw meat and eggs are cooked through.
If someone in your family is not feeling well, always seek medical help as soon as possible.
