In a series of Facebook posts, Sandy Brown shared with her friends and loved ones how her family battled against the novel coronavirus.
It was on March 26 when she first shared the death of her husband, Freddie Brown Jr.
In a report from NY Post, it was said that Freddie Jr. experienced symptoms of COVID-19 in the middle of March. He had a kidney transplant in the past, making his battle with the virus even more difficult. Days after being rushed to the hospital, his lungs gave up. A ventilator was later attached to him.
On March 26, Sandy rushed to the hospital after being told that his husband was dying. Freddie Jr. was later on not saved by the doctors. Hospital staff advised Sandy not to enter the room where Freddie Jr. was. However, Sandy went against the nurses' request by saying that she will sign any document just for her to see her dead husband.
The agony of losing her husband was not yet settling down in Sandy's system when two days later, she already had to rush her son Freddie Brown III to the emergency room. The younger Brown was suspected of having been infected with COVID-19 as well. Sandy was asking for prayers from friends for her son's fast recovery.
Sandy shared screenshots of her video conferences with her son while at the hospital.
On March 29, at around 10:00 pm, Sandy sadly shared the passing of her only son.
As seen in her Facebook posts, Sandy seemed determined to continue her life without the two men she dearly loves. Sandy prepared the funeral rights of her boys alone.
Sandy has been married to Freddie Jr. for 35 years. Their only son, Freddie III, was born after two miscarriages. To Sandy, the pain was unimaginable. "There's not even a word created to describe my pain. It's unimaginable," she said.
As days go by, Sandy continued to pray for the end of the pandemic. She was positive that through the intercession of God, everything will be back to normal.
In an interview with The Detroit News Sandy even said, "Medical science says I should be traumatized. I had a traumatic experience twice. I should be banging my head against the wall. But God said no. I'm standing here in the strength of the lord, not strength of my own. God has got me."
The Brown Family is very religious. In the tradition of their religion, the burial of Freddie Brown Jr. was supposed to be filled with music, remembrances and Bible readings. However, because of the pandemic, Sandy feels that she cannot even give her husband and son a proper burial; and all she was able to do was live stream the burial through her Facebook page.
"I can't even give them a proper burial. I just have to put them into a box and put them into a hole," Sandy said.
Still, even with such circumstances, Sandy still wore a dress that she felt was fit for her husband's and son's character - loving as they always have been.
