Two bodies were found by police officers, in a house in Delaware Country, April 15, Wednesday. The bodies were that of a mother and daughter whose deaths are still unknown. The bodies were found in their home at around 9 in the morning.
Accounts of neighbors
In a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer was an account of a person living near the house named Sarah Bachetti, 40 years old. She said that she saw a relative of the two screaming at the lawn while there were several Springfield Township police cars and Springfield Fire Company Truck outside the house. According to Bachetti, she does not know the names of the mother and daughter living next door nor of the relative. However, what she knew is that the relative lived with the two before.
It was not mentioned in the report as to whether the mother and daughter were seen by Bachetti beforehand.
Investigation has started
In the same report from Philadelphia Inquirer, it was stated that the Springfield Township Police Department has yet to release further details about what happened.
However, the initial statement from the police department shows that officers were dispatched for a welfare check on Wednesday. The relative was met in the area, on the 100 Block of School Lane, Delaware County. When the officers entered the house, the bodies were found lying on the floor of the living room. The mother is said to be 37 years old, and the daughter is a 10-year-old. It was not known to the officers who responded to what the cause of deaths was.
The Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office, on the other hand, said that the cause of deaths is still pending.
In another report from 6ABC, it was said that there no arrests made as of now.
The school of the 10-year-old girl is mourning.
The 10-year-old daughter is a fifth-grader of Scenic Hills Elementary School, of the Springfield School District. The district has issued a statement on its website about the passing of the young girl. It says that they are continuously supporting their community, especially the extended family and friends of those who died.
How is the school handling the situation?
The Springfield School District also stated that they are working collaboratively with authorities and various agencies to support the Scenic Hills Elementary School staff and students.
Studies have already proven that the sudden death of a friend or a classmate may cause posttraumatic distress to students. Also, such situations may result in students to think and worry about death. Another reason as to why things become difficult for students to accept the death of a peer is because they have a belief that their friends or classmates are just too young to die.
Although the school district is not allowed to provide further information about what has happened, because of the ongoing investigation, they assured that the people at the school where the student belonged would be provided further information once it is available.
