Soccer superstar David Beckham knows how it is to be a winner. The former captain of England's team still has plenty of influences in this sport even as he has retired in 2013, but he admits that the one person he cannot influence to play is none other than one of his sons.
"One of my boys turned around to me the other day, he said, 'Daddy, you know, I'm not sure I want to play football all the time. It broke my heart a little bit," David opened up and told the story during his interview with ABC News. He didn't say which son he was referring to.
"[My son] said, 'Every time that I step onto the field, I know people are saying, you know, 'This is David Beckham's son,' and if I'm not as good as you, then it's not good enough.' "I said, 'Okay, stop right there...You play because you want to play," David told his boy.
This news comes as the Beckhams learned that their eldest, Brooklyn, was reportedly cut from his team at the Youth Academy, according to News.Com.Au. But Eurosport reported the 16-year-old was promoted into the Arsenal U18 squad at the start of the year, while brother Romeo is also part of Arsenal's academy.
Meanwhile, the father of four also said in the interview that he and his wife, former Spice Girl member and now fashion designer Victoria Beckham, have agreed to be strict with the kids when it comes to their social media activities. However, it's not so easy with their teenager Brooklyn because, "He's got like four million Instagram followers," said David.
Still, David told ABC News that he and Victoria control Brooklyn's posts and what he does online, and this follows with their other children. Victoria is "the strict one in the house," said David, according to Elle Magazine.
"We've always been strict with the children," Victoria once admitted in an interview, according to The Spec.
David believes that being together for 18 years and married for 16 years have made them become effective parents to their children. Fortunately for the couple, they have good kids. "All our kids are amazing. I mean, they're really good kids. You know, they work hard at school. They're happy. They're funny. They are just really good kids," Victoria said during a guest appearance on Ellen, according to US Weekly.
