Not only are school activities, like prom and sports, but even traditional graduation ceremonies are also canceled. That is why different schools have thought of ways to celebrate the Class of 2020. Some have opted for virtual graduation, while others chose to have the ceremonies at drive-ins.
Celebrities are also participating in these milestones of the Class of 2020. Some celebrity parents took to their social media accounts for their proud moments for their children.
Celebrities take part in virtual graduations
LeBron James hosted "Graduate Together," virtual graduation. In the star-studded virtual graduation, the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama, gave the graduation speech.
In his speech, the former president acknowledged the challenges faced by the graduating class of 2020, especially now that a global pandemic has changed their lives.
He also joked about how the graduates have to be thankful they don't need to spend a long time sitting at a ceremony while listening to the commencement speaker.
Obama ended his speech by saying that even if things are uncertain, facing these challenges should be done together, "So be alive to one another's struggles. Stand up for one another's rights."
Aside from the virtual graduation ceremony hosted by James, Facebook and Instagram hosted a celebration for the Class of 2020.
#Graduation2020 is another star-studded virtual event. Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak were the hosts of the show. Oprah Winfrey, the commencement speaker of the event, called for the graduates to "create a new and more evolved normal."
Other celebrities who took part in the event are Cardi B., Sterling K. Brown, Miley Cyrus, Hugh Jackman, and Awkwafina.
More than 50,000 Facebook users streamed the virtual graduation celebration.
Celebrity Parents Celebrate Their Kids' Graduation
Several celebrities also had mini celebrations with their families as some of their kids graduate amid COVID-19. Most of them posted a photo on their social media accounts of their children during this milestone.
Actor Pierce Brosnan, 67 years old, congratulated his son Dylan in an Instagram post. In his message, he encouraged his son to go through the new world. He also added, "Be fearless, courageous, and generous."
Kelly Ripa shared in an episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, that she is disappointed that his son Michael Consuelos is not having traditional graduation. However, her son shrugs the thought as he believes it is not a big deal. Ripa also congratulated her son on Instagram. In her caption, she said, "Congratulations, Michael! You're a virtual graduate. Literally!" referring to how the college graduation will not be done the traditional way.
Other artists who greeted their children online include Julianne Moore, whose son, Cal Freundlich, is graduating from college. Actress Heather Locklear also celebrated on Instagram her daughter's, Ava Elizabeth Sambora's graduation. Ava Elizabeth is graduating from Loyola Marymount University.
Celebrity Ludacris Bridges' daughter, Karma, also took to Instagram the celebration of her last day in high school.
