'Once Upon A Time' Season 5 Spoilers: Same Sex Romance Confirmed By Showrunners, 'This Is The World We Live In' -- Which Characters Involved?

A relationship between the same sex will be cropping up in the newest season of "Once Upon A Time."

According to Entertainment Weekly, showrunners of OUAT confirmed during a special screening of the premiere of season 5 last Friday that a relationship between two LGBT characters will grow deeper.

"We know that community have been big supporters of the show and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that," producer Edward Kitsis told the news outlet.

"We want the show to reflect the world as it is now," another producer, Adam Horowitz, said, but he was more secretive about the details. "Whether that's going to be with any particular character, we're not going to say."

Viewers have been speculating that the characters will involve Mulan (played by Jamie Chung) and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty, played by Sarah Bolger), as suggested by Zap2it. If fans will remember, Mulan last appeared in the show's third season and her feelings for Aurora was only hinted in one of the episodes. The latter is now pregnant with her baby with Prince Philip and Mulan hasn't been seen in the show since after her character ran off with Robin Hood.

"When I was filming that, it was like an ongoing inside joke between Sara and I. Like, 'I secretly really care about you,' Chung told E! Online during her OUAT appearance two years ago. "And the audience as well, there was this conspiracy online, like, 'Mulan loves Aurora!' And I'm really glad that the writers listened because I really do think that's what they planned from the beginning. They're all about twists and like, why not? It felt so natural to begin with."

When asked if she would return to the show if asked, the actress said, "Are you kidding me? I think it would be really disappointing to leave the audience with this giant question mark. I would go back in a heartbeat."

But producers have indeed promised her return for season 5. "We do want to give a taste of where Mulan's been and what she's been up to and what she's going through. ... We want to honor the idea that their lives have been going on through now the fifth year of this show," said Horowitz according to IGN.

"Once Upon A Time" is set to begin airing season 5 on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
