On Tuesday, Nicole Byer shared an emotional message on her Instagram to help parents talk to their children about the movement "Black Lives Matter," the unjust arrest of George Floyd, and the widespread protests following that event.
The 33-year-old comedian started the post by introducing herself as Nicole. She is the host of "Nailed It!" from Netflix, and many kids watch the show.
Byer said parents should stand up for black people themselves
Nicole Byer explained that there was one comment from a parent that said that they would just let their children watch "Nailed It" then keep their head down. The comment made her laugh because it is not useful to give their children watch Byer's show but not stand up for her. Then she said that she would do the work by writing a conversation that parents could use.
Byer said that a good way to explain the Black Live Matter, also known for hashtag #blacklivesmatter is by asking them about this black lady, which pertains to Byer. Her advice to parents is to ask their children if this black lady is silly and makes them laugh, then it would sadden them if a police officer hurts her. Then she said that there are people in the country that we are currently living in who hurt people based on the color of their skin.

Byer added by saying that people in charge are not doing anything to stop it, so people are protesting. She said that the looters are some people who felt oppressed for so long, so they burst into anger while the other people's role is to distract the people.
The podcast host said there are no nice cops because if there are, they will not allow and participate in violence against brown and black people. She also said that if they are nice, they would have opened about the brutality that the police did years ago.
Nicole Byer said that the cops dress up as the children's GI Joe dolls and are very mean. She explained that the curfews, the helicopters, and the police in riot gear are all due to the requests of black people not to be killed.
Nicole Byer said to share black stories with children
She added that once a week, parents should read to their children about stuff that happens to black people whom the school does not cover. Some of her examples are Juneteenth and black Wall Street. She also said that they did not credit how black people have influenced the pop culture of the present.
Byer advised parents to post about black history and teach their white children to share them with other white parents and do the same thing.
She then finished her statement by saying that she is open if any parent wants to add some thoughts.
