NBA player Dwight Howard joins Tony Parker and George Hill in wearing and promoting Peak shoes.
NBC sports report that Dwight Howard is the newest NBA star that china-based shoemaker Peak has grabbed in promoting its shoe line in a Nike- and Adidas-dominated market.
Dwight Howard was spotted wearing Peak as he went inside a youth camp, and confirmed a deal with the said Chinese company.
Here's what Howard said to the media, as per Fox News 26, regarding his deal with Peak, and what he thinks about the brand and its owner:
"I had a great run with Adidas. Peak is an up and coming company and we're really looking forward to helping them grow in the States....
"A brand like Peak that has an opportunity to really grow and become a global brand, it's something that the owner, myself, and everybody under him is looking forward to do.
"I am very blessed," Howard added. "I had a chance to meet the owner of the company in China. Even though he couldn't speak any English, we had a great conversation. He's a great guy. We all have the same goals, so I'm very excited and happy about where I'm at."
This move to the new company, Fox reports, has been reported for months. Peak has tweeted about the deal earlier this month.
Speaking about the pair that he wore as he went to the youth camp (which had kids from grades one to 12), Howard said "the shoes I have on aren't the shoes I'm going to be wearing during the season, but we customized a really great shoe and it looks good."
Peak posted the shoe on instagram and it does look good.
Peak already has some players carrying its name into the hardcourt, namely San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker and Indiana Pacers' George Hill. The addition of Howard to their roster of players promoting the shoe is a big step for the chinese company in the international shoe market, going against and alongside shoe greats such as Nike and Adidas, both known to dominate the hardcourt shoe market.
Nike, led by the Jordan brand, still leads the shoe market at 90 percent. It also has the LeBron James line of shoes, the biggest selling line for active players. Adidas and Under Armour, both endorsed by Stephen Curry, are following next in the market share.
And now with Howard promoting the shoes additionally, Peak hopes that it will also break in and get a big share in the global market.
