Love Gwaltney threw a belated gender reveal party for her transgender son because they got his gender wrong 17 years ago. Now, the pictures are going viral.
On Saturday, the mom in Akron, Ohio, shared a long Facebook post about the event. She said that they wanted to announce to the world that they got it all wrong before. Seventeen years ago, they thought that they were having a little girl and named her McKenzie. So on July 11, she wrote that they want to introduce their SON: Grey.
Grey Schoolcraft helped plan the event. Identifies as nonbinary, the trans teen uses he/him pronouns, so he requested nonbinary flag colors for the balloons and cake. The photographer they had for the event was Sarah McBride.

Worried about older family members
The 35-year-old mom told TODAY Parents that the more they talked about the gender reveal, the more Schoolcraft got excited. Gwaltney, however, had one concern. While her son has not been hiding his identity, the teen was worried about telling the older family members like his grandmother.
Gwaltney reassured Schoolcraft that it is going to be okay because he has got it. Thankfully, the family took it well and noted that they are going to do their best to use the correct pronouns when addressing the teenage boy.

Commenters shared their thoughts about the post
The 19-weeks pregnant mom received overwhelming messages after sharing the photos online. She said that many of them were heartbreaking. Many people from the trans community wanted her as a parent. They are hoping to have an accepting and loving parent like her.
She realized that she is doing it right because people tell her that she is the mom that everyone needs. Although she received one hate mail threatening her about calling Child Protective Services, most responses were positive.

Many commenters welcome Schoolcraft to the world. One school principal wrote a comment, saying that he has worked with kids whose parents made their journeys difficult. The principal said that it is wonderful that Schoolcraft has such loving and supportive parents and family.
Another person commented on the post by cheering on Schoolcraft for being true to himself. The person also noted the priceless joy on the teen's face.
Non-binary gender identity
Non-binary gender identity is a term used by people who are in between or beyond both genders. The person is neither exclusively male nor female. People who fall under this identity could be gender fluid, agender (meaning without gender), third gender, or something else. Sometimes, they are classified under the broad category of transgender people.
