Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the education system in the United States had to shift to online platforms. Before the end of the previous school year, establishments like schools had to shut down. This incident meant that classes had to be conducted online, and students are no longer allowed to go to school.
In the coming fall, schools will re-open. However, this has sparked a lot of debates among parents.
For dad and Fowl Language Comics artist Brian Gordon, returning to school is a struggle not only to kids but also to parents.
Hence, he thought of creating comics that would encourage discussion on the matter. Surely, it engendered some opposing opinions when posted on Instagram.
The School Reopening Concerns
"Will it be safe to send my kid to school?"
"Should I homeschool my kids?"
"Will wearing a mask be enough?"
These questions are just a few of the many things that parents ask when the topic of returning to school is raised. Some say it is a premature action, while others say that it is the right thing to do.
Brian Gordon, in an interview with HuffPost, shared that it is a complex issue. "There are clearly strong opinions on all sides of this issue and I get it."
The comics artist is a father of four children. They have already settled that two of his kids will remain at home and continue with remote schooling. The other two, however, are still up for decision.
They live in Kansas, and the fact that there is still uncontrolled spread of the coronavirus makes them consider many things. He said, "Like many of us, my wife and I are struggling with the prospect of sending our kids back to school in the fall."
Brian Gordon's comics
Last week, a comics created by Gordon sparked a debate on Instagram. He said, "There were many fans who loved the comic and felt supported and heard, and then there were those who challenged me to propose a better solution than what already exists."
The talked-sbout comics shows a group of parents and kids in front of a burning school building. Two of the adults in the comics were debating whether the kids should go back inside the still-burning building, or not.
The debates
In the comment section of the Instagram post of Fowl Language comics, parents and teachers expressed opposing opinions on the matter at hand.
Some parents say that this should not be an issue as other countries have implemented it.
Some agreed with Brian.
Gordon says he chose to share this because it reflects his life experience as a parent.
