A mom died because doctors told her that the coronavirus probably caused her persistent cough. They set aside that she had recovered from breast cancer twice before.
Beth Pattison talked to a general practitioner in March and an oncologist in May. In June, she died from cancer, leaving behind her five-year-old son, Finn Lynch. Her family is now urging the NHS to check patients with cancer as a priority before casting them out as coronavirus patients.
Reporters approached Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust for comments. Bridge End Surgery is offering their condolences for the grieving family.
Two lumps found
In 2016, Ms. Pattison was first diagnosed with breast cancer. She had undergone a mastectomy and chemotherapy and radiotherapy courses to treat her disease. In 2017, she was having her chemotherapy when the doctors found another lump.

Told twice that her symptoms looked like COVID's
The 27-year-old mom went to Bridge End Surgery in Chester-le-Street because of her non-stop cough in March 2020. During that time, the coronavirus has started spreading all over the country. The medical team told her that her symptoms were like those that of COVID-19's
Two months later, she had a telephone appointment with Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary oncologist. Her father, Craig Pattison, said that the medical team told her for the second time that her illness was probably due to the deadly virus.
Negative from the virus
On June 8, Ms. Pattison got admitted to the hospital and was treated for pneumonia at first. She got a negative result for the virus before she was admitted. Two further tests revealed she did not contract the virus.
Mr. Pattison said that the doctor's investigation took over two weeks before they found out that his daughter had ovarian, breast, and lung cancer.

On June 27, the mom-of-one, who has worked as a housing officer, died in Newcastle's Freeman Hospital. She suffered a cardiac arrest when the medics tried to place her in an induced coma.
Check medical history first
Mr. Pattison said that what his daughter has left as a legacy was that medical teams should check a patient's medical history first before other causes. Ms. Pattison was previously diagnosed with cancer, so what Mr. Pattison is asking is that they make sure that horrible diseases do not come back.
The dad said that his family is not blaming any healthcare professional. After receiving care and support for more than four years, he believes that NHS has done a superb job. He stated that his daughter was not a victim of COVID but of the circumstances caused by COVID.
