Teacher Used Own Money to Make Schooling Safe and Fun for Kids

Many parents are still thinking about sending their kids to school. Some teachers have stepped up their game to make schooling fun and safe for their students. One Texas teacher, Jennifer Birch Pierson, set up her classroom for students to practice social distancing.

Desks look like trucks.

The kindergarten teacher placed desks six feet apart, then added some decor to make it more appealing for kids. She made the desks look like trucks with the required desk shields that look like windshields.

The creative teacher likely shelled out cash from her pocket to make life easier for her students. The parenting blog "Maybe I'll Shower Today" posted a photo of the teacher's creation on her Facebook page.

Teachers at high risk of getting ill

Teachers like Pierson should receive praise for making things possible during the hardest of times. Working parents are currently having a hard time deciding whether to bring their kids to school or not. Teachers are also facing a tough time because having to be in a small, crowded area like classrooms are at risk of getting infected with the virus. Worse, if they bring the illness at home after school.

Data from South Korea has recently revealed that children older than ten years old spread the virus the way adults do. It proves that reopening schools is not a good idea as it could help increase the chances of more people contracting the disease. Teachers have brought their concerns about going back to normal schooling. Many of them are planning on having a strike.

Most major cities, except New York, have announced that they will proceed with virtual schooling. Some states have already opened their schools to get kids back on in-person schooling. Last week, a high schooler got suspended for posting a hallway full of students, and only a few wore face masks. Now they have since closed because nine people tested positive for coronavirus. One Georgia kindergarten has caused all students to be in quarantine because, on the first day of school, students got infected with the virus.

Although teachers will do their best to make physical schooling less scary for your children, it would be best to make them feel our support. Parents are grateful for teacher moms like Pierson.

CDC notes on school reopening

While virtual schooling is made possible at home with the help of advanced gadgets and an internet connection, nothing compares with in-person schooling. The CDC noted that schools affect a child's health and wellbeing second to their home.

It said that an in-person school environment could benefit your children by providing teaching instruction and supporting social and emotional development skills. The CDC also noted that physical schools are a safe place for learning because they address nutritional needs and facilitate physical activity.
