A Colombian woman, Sandra Medina, is 37 weeks pregnant, but she got stranded in Canada due to the coronavirus. Strangers from Canada have donated money so she could pay for her delivery in the country.
Medina's daughter, Alejandra Saenz, translated what her mom had said. She explained that her mom feels very grateful for all the help she has received. The daughter also said that her mom is a little bit sentimental about the Canadian people that have helped her.
No insurance
Since Medina has no insurance, she has to pay for her impending birth bills herself. She knew she could not afford it so she set up an online fundraiser. Within 24 hours, she has already raised $5,000. As she wipes away tears from her eyes, Medina said that there are no words to express how much she feels. All she could say was "thank you so much" to all those who have helped her raise the money she needed.

The daughter was left alone in Canada
In May, Saez's cousin suddenly died, causing her to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is studying at the University of Saskatchewan. After the death of her close cousin, she was left alone with no other family in Canada. Medina rushed to be by her daughter's side to help her. Thankfully, she was able to secure a ride on a returning humanitarian ride.
Before her due date, Medina planned to return home. However, due to the pandemic, the Canadian government is still implementing border closures, which is why she could not leave the country.

Rushed to be by daughter's side
Because she left Colombia in such a rush, Medina was not able to get the insurance that could have covered her delivery bills in case she had to give birth in Canada. Based on a Saskatoon hospital document, an uninsured non-Canadian would have to pay $1,000 for a standard outpatient procedure. A standard ward for an inpatient procedure would cost about $4,500. The mom and daughter were expecting to pay between $7,000 to $8,000.
Medina said that since she is outside of her mother country, the Colombian government will not pay for her health expenses. She explained that she has been to both the Colombian and Canadian embassies but no one has helped her with her problem.

As a last resort, the two set up a GoFundMe page, and they could not believe the generosity that they have received. After seeing the donations pouring from the Canadian people, she was able to sleep peacefully for the first time after a long time.
As of writing, the mom and daughter have already raised more than $7,000.
