Are you tired of these annoying bugs? If you have long been figuring out how to get rid of gnats once and for all, then check out these tips to eliminate them the natural way.

Gnats infestation can be a nuisance, apart from being potentially disease carriers. But before you consider buying chemicals to finally put an end to these bugs, try these simple tips.

How to eliminate gnats the chemical-free way

Eliminate the source

First, you need to realize why they are there in the first place. Your house is providing their food source. Fungus gnat feed on plants and fungi found on the soil, as well as other organic matter.

Make sure that you rinse fruits and veggies as soon as you get home. Then keep them in the fridge as soon as possible. Dispose of all rotten and overripe fruits and make sure that you tie and secure the plastic bag before your close the trash bin.

Also, ensure that you eliminate possible breeding ground. If you have indoor plants, remove dead leaves and replace pot line and or soil if you see mold or fungus infestation in it. Replace the plant altogether if the roots are showing signs of rotting.

Fungus gnats and drain flies also thrive in a humid and moist environment. So, fix any leaking pipes and wipe down the outside using soap and water before wiping it again with white vinegar. Also, consider repotting indoor plants in new soil to minimize the infestation.

Use hydrogen peroxide solution when watering plants. This ensures the fungus gnat larvae are killed before they develop into full-grown gnats. Simply mix one (1) part (3% solution) hydrogen peroxide with four (4) parts water.

Use apple cider vinegar trap

One natural solution to killing adult gnats is by using an apple cider vinegar gnat trap. Just mix apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in the container. Cover it with a plastic wrap then poke holes in it so gnats can crawl right into the trap. The apple cider vinegar's smell will act a lure to the adult gnats while the soap traps and prevents them from escaping and ultimately drown in the solution.

Alternatively, you can use an old bottle of wine or beer with some leftover content in it. You can also add a few drops of dish soap. Like the apple cider vinegar, gnats are also attracted to the smell of wine and beer. Just leave the bottle open so the gnats can crawl in. The narrow neck and opening should be enough to trap the adult gnats.

Lure them with a candle flame trap

Another trap you can set without using chemicals is by using a candle trap. To do this, you need a small pan filled with water. Place a tall candle in the candlestick and then put it in the pan. Light the candle, then turn all the lights off and leave the lit candle on. The gnats should be lured by the flame and will either be drowned in the water or burned. Stay in the room and wait until it is time to blow out the candle.
