After the announcement that Disney will be developing a new version of the movie musical "Mary Poppins," Anne Hathaway's name immediately appeared as a popular choice. The actress recently addressed the casting rumors during the press junket of her latest movie "The Intern" with Robert De Niro.
"I saw them announce it on television and they mentioned Mary Poppins and I was thinking - I said, 'That's Annie,'" said De Niro, according to Entertainment Tonight (ET). However, Anne said that she hasn't been approached. "No one's talked to me about it," she said during the interview. "I've heard rumors of this and people have spoken to me about it today and there's not been anything official," she added, according to Digital Spy.
The Oscar winner also believes that her good friend and co-star on "The Devil Wears Prada," Emily Blunt, would be perfect for the role. "I feel like she's going to get it - she's British," said Anne to the reporters.
While casting for "Mary Poppins" hasn't been confirmed, Anne has a pretty good idea of what project she would like to be on next. She wants to be in the sequel of "Trainwreck," a summer movie starring Amy Schumer.
"I would love to see me in that. Not gonna lie, that's just an open-hearted wish!" the 32-year-old actress said. The actress was already featured in the movie as the butt of jokes, but she doesn't seem to mind this. In fact, Anne confessed, she loves Schumer and her comedy show "Inside Amy Schumer."
"It's so funny and insightful and brilliant and brave and one of the best things I've seen in I don't know how long," she said, according to ET.
Meanwhile, as "The Intern" hits theaters on Sept. 25, Anne is currently busy making the press rounds. According to Deadline, the workplace comedy showcases the brilliance of its two leads. In the movie, De Niro's character, Ben, works as a senior intern at an e-commerce store. His boss is Anne as Jules Ostin. Deadline also noted that "The Intern" is a crowd pleaser.
"The Intern" director Nancy Meyer is in awe of Anne's talent. "She's one of the few women who can do it all," said Meyers via US Magazine. "She can do everything."
"My whole M.O. in my twenties was being in as many different types of films as you can. Working with as many different types of directors as you can. I think, in part, that's what I wanted to do as an actor," Anne told the news outlet. "I've tried to have as big of a range as I've had," she added.
