Extra Halloween Treats? Here Are 7 Ways to Donate Them

Did your kids get too many Halloween treats? Do not throw them away. You could donate them for a cause. You are not only saving your little one's teeth from too many cavities, but you are also making other people happy in the process.

Here is a list of organizations that would gladly accept excess candy and chocolate bars for a cause.

Treats for Troops

Avoid keeping your kids high with the sugar rush by sending the excess goodies to soldiers. Soldier's Angels run this program so parents could get a tax-deductible receipt when you donate. Other than that, your children could also earn buyback prizes by sharing their sweets.

Operation Gratitude

This group sends the candies you donate to first responders and deployed troops. While they are far away from home, they would surely be reminded of the sweetness of their loved ones by your sweet gesture. The group received 533,891 pounds of candy last year.

Halloween Candy Buy Back

Get healthy items by exchanging candies. By partnering with dentists' offices, this group gives you toothbrushes, coupons, and hygiene kits in exchange for the sweet treats.

Operation Trick or Treating for the Troops

Operation Stars and Stripes run this organization to help troops feel the special event celebrated by many as they are out in the field. You could collect excess candies by sponsoring a drive in your community.

Operation Shoebox

Make troops happy by sharing your sweet packages with them. This organization sends candies to them on days that they are far away from home. During Halloween, Christmas, and Easter, Operation Shoebox delivers candies and sweets to help troops enjoy the festivities while they are not with their loved ones.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

There are ways to bring your Halloween candies for other children to enjoy. This organization helps you deliver the goodies to severely sick kids and their families so they could enjoy the season too.

The local chapter would tell you the rules on how to give out your excess sweets; just give them a call. After your children have enjoyed their trick-or-treat event, other families could get to enjoy as well when you donate some to them.

Any Soldier

Apart from sending out sweet treats, this organization also allows you to help out any soldier in need. You could search through the soldiers' wish list and then send donations overseas.

While you want to help others in need, do not forget to save some for you and your kids to enjoy. Talk to your children first before you hand out their collected candies for donation. Have them choose their favorites, then explain to them that you will be giving away their lesser favorite to help others. It is a good way to teach them a good lesson about sharing too.
