Ryan Reynolds, a celebrity dad, saw a tweet about this and quickly donated over 300 winter gear for the kids.
Since winter is just around the corner, this means adding layers of clothes and getting ready to keep themselves warm and cozy. However, for some people, specifically for kids in Nunavut in Northern Canada, the coming of winter means adding every layer of clothes they own but still knowing that they'll always be cold.
Seeking winter gear
A Canadian Inuk singer-songwriter named Becky Han posted a tweet in September seeking winter gear donations for Inuujaq School in her hometown of Arctic Bay. That specific tweet reached the eyes of the celebrity dad Ryan Reynolds.
Han reached out to the school to see if they needed school supplies. Gregg Durant, the school principal, said that there are kids who do not have proper winter gear. The principal added that they have kids who did not have enough winter gear to keep them warm during winter. That there are kids who would come to school and the staff will think that they need a new pair of boots or that they need a proper parka.
After posting the tweet, Han was merely expecting a small response but soon after, she got a direct message from an account she first thought was a fake one. The statement said, "I saw the tweets and how can I help?".
Ryan Reynolds donates winter gears
After going and scrolling through the account's profile, Han was just shocked because it was no other than the celebrity dad's real history, Ryan Reynolds, who contacted her. Han quickly gave Ryan Reynolds the number of Principal Durrant, and both of them talked about what the kids mostly need supplies and winter gears.
Durrant recalled that his talk with the celebrity dad was quite enjoyable — even mentioning that he got an email where the celebrity dad, Ryan Reynolds, introduces himself and asks further details about the winter gear that kids need.
The celebrity dad then talked to some of his friends to get them on board with the donations. The vice president of Canada Goose, Gavin Thompson, said that Ryan Reynolds had been a company friend for over ten years. And with just a week, there is already a shipment of 300 brand new Canada Goose Parkas, boots, gloves, socks, and hats on its way to the Inuujaq school in Arctic Bay.
Once the shipment came in, the clothes were laid out by size for the children to select. Durrant said that the children were very excited and that the children put on their winter gears quickly to check their sizes and fitting.
Other donations
It is not just the kids in Arctic Bay who will benefit from Canada Goose partnerships. The brand has also announced that they will be working with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (a non-profit organization) to provide repurposed parkas to the people within Nunangat, the Inuit homeland in Canada, as their way to expand their Resource Center Program.
