USPS letters show the heartbreaking effects of COVID-19 on children. Besides adults, kids are also silently affected by the isolation to the point that their wishes from Santa also reveal how the pandemic has affected their hearts' longings.
Children are affected by COVID-19
The USPS collects letters to Santa from children every year. It buys presents for children and families who are in need. Scary Mommy shared that this year, children of all ages are deeply affected by the coronavirus.
Raymond, a 13-year-old, wrote a letter on behalf of his two younger siblings. Although the teen shared that he is a non-believer, he sent his wishes asking Santa to help his mom for Christmas. He explained that they could use some help because everyone is at home and not working due to COVID-19.
Lilly, 11, shared her story with Santa, saying that she did not have a good year this year. She said she misses her grandpa and his big hugs because her grampa died due to the virus. Now, she could not see him anymore.
A four-year-old boy also had a very tough year. Adien shared that he lost both his dad and grandfather, so he is asking Santa to bring some happiness to his mom because she is having a rough time.
Families are struggling financially due to COVID-19
Many letters posted by USPS on their Instagram account shows families struggling financially due to COVID-19. The deadly disease has already killed almost 300,000 people Americans, and many families will soon be celebrating the holiday covered with sad faces this year.
While Christmas is a holiday that children of any age are excited about, what some of them want this year is not only the material things that money could buy. Fifth-grader Kaden wrote Santa a letter asking if he could restart the school year with no COVID.
While Jasmyne also asked for an X-Box, she also wished for world peace, climate control, and for COVID-19 to end. Barron, four, wrote that his first wish is for Santa to make the coronavirus go away.
Savannah even apologized for being "bad" this year because she explained that it was "really hard" due to the pandemic. On the other hand, Jonathan asks for a mask after telling Santa that he had been a good kid this year.
These letters only show that not only adults are affected by isolation, but kids also have changed their way of thinking after experiencing hardships this year. And since there is no assurance that the virus is going away anytime soon, it would be helpful for each one to do their part to prevent the further spread of the virus to others.
