[WATCH] Mom Shows How to Check for Choking Hazards

A mom shows how to check choking hazards by sharing a video on Instagram. In the clip, the mother teaches other parents a way to know if a certain item or food could choke their young children.

"Tiny Hearts Education" parenting organization shows how kids ages zero to three could pick up something easily and put them in their mouths. The mom from the Melbourne company revealed her "favorite parenting hack" with everything.

Food and other items

She created a hole using her index finger and thumb and tried letting things and food pass through them. She dropped down popcorn, a grape, a cherry, a $1 coin, and other toys into the hole she made.

The mom wrote that it is the way she checks if a food or small item could be a choking hazard for her little child. She stated that the circle she made is about the size of a zero to three-year-old kid.

Keep choking hazards out of reach

She said that anything that fits into that hole is a choking hazard. Finally, she told parents that they should keep such things out of reach from small kids as much as possible.

Thousands of parents saw the eye-opening video and were grateful for the organization for the warning. Around Christmas time, parents could possibly give attention to toddlers because of the festivity.

Parents are grateful for the eye-opener

Many parents who got alerted by the video commented on the post. One wrote being grateful for the post saying that she is about to sort her children's toys. She noted that she is going to remove any choking hazards because her youngest child will soon be crawling and reaching out for toys.

One commended the mom from the video saying that it is a clever way to select toys for the little ones. One parent wrote that one of the biggest fears she has is choking.

While many parents were thankful for the warning of the video, some are confused as to how some items are put into the little one's mouths. "Tiny Hearts" created the hack to help parents know more about choking hazards.

Raising awareness among parents

The video helps to raise awareness on how an object could easily block the children's airways. A good example is a grape, which is a choking hazard if not cut into quarters. Certain objects that match the hole size of children could risk the kids choking.

The mom in the clip said that the hack would help parents decide on things to give their kids. It helps them know what toys to buy and what food to prepare for their little ones.

Choking happens when a food or an item gets stuck in the windpipe or a person's throat. As a result, the blockage partially or totally blocks the air that flows into the lungs. Anything that is smaller than a D-size battery could choke babies and younger kids.
