A New Jersey toddler and mom paint hundreds of Christmas cards for nursing home residents.
The two-year-old toddler, Bella Singer, and her mom, Husniye Singer, started painting cards for nursing home residents after missing Bella's grandmother, who is in New York.
Missing grandma
Every year, the Singers would go to New York and spend the holidays with Bella's grandmother. However, due to the pandemic, the family decided to spend Christmas at home.
Although the trip was canceled, they still wanted to make the grandmother feel special. That is why they made a Christmas card for the grandma.
Bella was the one who painted the card. They sent the card to New York.
The grandma was delighted to see the card. She was alone in New York, and the card made her feel better.
The idea to paint more cards
Due to the grandma's reaction to the Christmas card, Husniye thought that they could make more to send it to nursing home residents.
Weeks before Christmas, the New Jersey toddler and mom painted hundred of Christmas cards.
Bella took a huge part in the painting as each card has her hand painting.
The Christmas cards
Aside from the New Jersey toddler and mom's painted cards, they also attached notes to the card. Each of the Christmas cards said that the family is thinking of them during this holiday season.
The mom shared with nj.com, "We are all isolated now because of COVID. We couldn't visit our families. And then think of those seniors. They're more isolated than us."
Husniye added that this is their way of sharing the holiday cheers despite the coronavirus pandemic.
In sending out the cards, the New Jersey mom meets receptionists or staff members outside the nursing home, and she hands them the Christmas cards.

The project will continue
The little act of kindness by the Singer family has no intention of stopping until next year.
According to the New Jersey mom, she would like to continue creating cards for nursing home residents. They plan to send out cards for Valentine's Day and Easter.
The mom said, "It's a good reminder that the small things we do in life still matter."
Nursing home residents during the pandemic
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, nursing home residents have been isolated and are spending most of their time in nursing homes.
Since the residents are more susceptible to the virus, visits in nursing homes are strict, and sometimes prohibited. An appointment system is established in some of the facilities.
Other nursing homes tried to be creative in allowing visits from family.
When visitations are allowed, strict health protocol measures are implemented to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
