New Year's Eve is just around the corner, and what more fun way to celebrate than to keep your little ones busy while practicing social distancing. If you usually travel or go to the park on the night before a new year, this year, you could still make your children enjoy the day even while confined at home.

However, coming up with ideas is not the easiest. If you already ran out of activities, read on to get some ideas on how to make sure that the entire family ends the year with a blast.

Gold slime

Make use of the glitters to add spark on New Year's Eve by making gold slime. You will need to color clear glue with yellow or gold food coloring. Add half a teaspoon of baking soda into the glue, then add a quarter cup of water and mix.

Add your glitter, then slowly add contact lens solution (should have sodium borate and boric acid). Stop adding when the slime pulls away from the bowl. Knead the slime using your hands for about five minutes and keep doing so until you get your desired stickiness.

Make your New Year's Eve party hats

There are printable party hats, so it would be easier for you to assemble once you and your kids have designed your very own hats.

Make fireworks in a jar

Playing with fireworks need not be dangerous for your kids. You could make the same effect in a jar. Pour about four tablespoons of oil (you may add more if desired) into a bowl, then add four to five drops of food coloring, about three colors.

Whisk, then pour into a jar filled with three-fourths water. Wait and let your children see little drops dancing like fireworks.

Ring toss game

Make an ordinary ring toss game by playing in your yard when it is almost midnight. Use different-colored glow stick rings to make it more fun and exciting.

Make noise craft

New Year is best celebrated by making noise to end the year and mark the start of another year. But you need not buy pricey items just to bang it loud. Instead, you could make yours at home. Follow the steps shared on the Paper plate noise maker craft page.

Bingo game

Print out New Year's Bingo cards and bring out your bingo chips to enjoy a fun game with your kids.

Make party crackers

Excite your children with party crackers by making them at home. You could insert candies, chocolates, or small toys inside, then wrap them neatly by following simple instructions shared by Moms and Munchkins.

New Year's Eve DIY cupcake toppers

Satisfy your sweet tooth cravings by baking your favorite cupcake, and then top them off with New Year's Eve DIY cupcake toppers. Have your kids help you with the decoration to keep their hands full as you prepare for the night.
