The mysterious COVID-19 related sickness in children continues to rise. This rise was observed in hospitals all over the country.
Last Monday, the doctors at Rady Children's hospital have reportedly seen that more kids are diagnosed with the mysterious COVID-19 related sickness in children.
According to Dr. Jane Burns of Rady Children's Hospital, they observed the increase in cases today compared to the cases in September and in August.
The surge in MIS-C cases in children
According to experts, the number of MIS-C cases in children was rising just as the number of coronavirus cases rose.
In a report from CBS 8, experts shared that the mysterious illness affects children who were exposed to the virus four to five weeks earlier.
A recent report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that since the middle of May, around 1,288 children had been affected by the mysterious COVID-19 related sickness. Based on the same report from CDC, 23 children have already died due to the MIS-C.
According to Dr. Burns, another surge of MIS-C cases can be expected in the next month.

The MIS-C
According to observations, most of the children affected by the MIS-C are those between the ages of 1 and 14.
In the observed cases, 75% are children who are either Hispanic or Latino. That is at 460 out of the 1,288 cases.
More than half of those who were affected or 56% of the patients were male.
The mysterious COVID-19 related sickness among children manifested after two to four weeks of being exposed to COVID-19.
Although the case is rare among children, health experts are still reminding parents that this sickness is a serious condition and can be deadly. It must also be noted that this disease can cause organs like the heart and brain to become inflamed.
Symptoms of MIS-C
According to reports, some of the symptoms of the mysterious COVID-19 related sickness among children are:
- fever (for more than two days)
- vomiting
- rash
- changes in skin color
- difficulty in breathing
- diarrhea
- abdominal pain
These symptoms are observed two or four weeks after being infected with the coronavirus.
According to health experts, it would be best if parents would trust their instincts and not hesitate to bring their children to the hospital. Burns also reminded adults of the consequences of their behavior towards the pandemic, "It's very, very sad the adults can't behave better because it's the children who are really going to suffer."
Dr. Burns also said, "The earlier we get to these children, we start treatment for them, we can avoid some of the really serious complications. Staying away can be really really dangerous."
