In Woodway, Texas, a home got robbed while the family is at the father's funeral.
Last January 5, the family came home and saw how their home was a wreck from the burglary.
Because of the incident, Woodway police reminds families to be extra careful and vigilant when leaving their homes.
An additional grief to the father's funeral
The family's grief of losing their father was worse when they got home and found out that their home got robbed.
One family member shared with KWTX how horrified they were when they got home, "You're so torn up on the inside and your emotions are all raw to start with."
According to the family, the burglars came into the house through the back door. The family believes that the suspects even kicked the back door when the crowbar did not work, "Then they went about trashing my father's house."
Valuables were taken when home got robbed
Aside from the fact that the home got robbed while the family is at the father's funeral, they were also heartbroken to find out that they lost some important stuff. Some of these are the ones with sentimental value.
One of the family members said, "They took every single family photo I have of my daddy and my momma and everybody else in the family."
Losing the family photos, according to the family, was what made this incident more painful.
Aside from these items, a Cadillac, that was parked in the driveway, was also stolen from the family.
The family's plead to the burglars
Even though the home got robbed while the family is at the father's funeral, the family is grateful that their dad is no longer alive to see the incident. A family member said, "This alone would've killed him."
While they are still upset about what the burglars did, the family is pleading the burglars to return one of the bags which has flash drives in them, "Even if they just have to return the items by tossing them back on their front lawn."
Police warn families about similar incidents
The police is already conducting investigation on the incident.
According to Woodway Police, although it may sound unique, they have already recorded several same incidents in the area. An official said, "We have had a couple in the last few months here in Woodway."
Police say that when the family provides the date and time of the funeral in obituaries, the burglars see this as an opportunity to rob a home.
Authorities suggest that a call to the police should be done when families are going away from their homes. The Woodway police said, "let them know you're going to be away from the house for a funeral or vacation that way the officers on patrol can drive by the house and check it."
