A father and daughter duo work together to clean waterways in Florida.
Dad, Jason Garcia, and his 10-year-old daughter, Lauren, work every week to clean the Northeast waterways in Florida.
The father and daughter duo are from St. Augustine in Florida, and are using magnet fishing to help in cleaning the waterways.
Finding all sorts of stuff
While the father and daughter duo are on their weekly adventure, they are not only helping clean the waterways in Florida. Instead, they are also pulling up treasures from the river.
According to Jason, they find it surprising to pull up items from the river they suppose are thrown there. The dad said in an interview with News4Jax, "Every time we pull that magnet up, it could be anything from a rusty nail to a gun."
Once, the father and daughter duo pulled up a revolver, which the owner left loaded with ammunition.
The 10-year-old daughter, Lauren, finds these memories of magnet fishing and pulling up guns from the river exciting. "Because that means we can help solve a crime," she said.
The Florida dad said that in their pursuit of helping clean the waterways in their area, they hope that they will find a weapon that can help solve a crime.
Authorities say that when weapons like these are turned over, they are processed and sometimes become potential leads.
All of the weapons that Lauren and Jason got from the river have been turned over to the authorities. As of writing, they have already found three guns in their magnet fishing adventures.
The father and daughter bonding
Lauren's weekly routine of helping clean the waterways through magnet fishing in Florida served as her bonding with his dad. She said, "It helps clean up the environment, and I get to make memories with my dad."
The duo's love for water and the environment is what keeps them close.
Part of their bonding is filming what they do. The father and daughter duo even has a YouTube channel, Daddy and Daughter Plus Water.
Filming their adventures together
Seven months ago, Jason and Lauren started uploading videos of their adventures.
Their first video was an adventure tubing and snorkeling at Itchetucknee Springs in Florida. The family shared some of their photos during their day out.
Some of the most recent uploads in the YouTube channel are strange finds that they had in what they suspect as a dumpsite.
In another video, they also found some Acetylene tanks that are still loaded with gas.
Some of the videos uploaded by the father and daughter duo received thousands of views.
Those who have seen their videos thought that what they are doing is cool. Some netizens even said they are interested in trying magnet fishing too.
