There is something else to share with a pair of identical twins from Texas than twin sisterhood. The twin sisters gave birth hours apart at the same hospital.
In April of last year, Nigerian-born twin sisters Kehinde Adedayo and Taiwo Aluko found out they were expecting during the lockdown. Now they are more than a pair of identical twin sisters who have been on each other's side all their lives and lived in Texas for nine years now.
They have far more in common than just their genes, both of whom are now also moms to newborns, born in the same hospital less than two days apart.
They also had similar ideas about sharing the good news when they both found out in early April that they were pregnant.
Aluko said, "I wanted to surprise Kehinde and have my little girl bring her the positive pregnancy test when she was least expecting it," in an interview. "But, little did we know, she had the very same surprise planned for me when her 2-year-old son brought me her positive test at the same time that evening!"
During their pregnancy, the sisters were so similar that they ended up giving birth within 48 hours apart from each other at the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth, even if their due dates were supposedly three days apart.
Twin sisters' birth and plans after
A nurse in the mother/baby unit of the hospital, Shelby Jones, who personally took care of the twins, said it was extraordinary to watch the sisters share the joy of becoming new moms, given the number of coronavirus restrictions that have stopped even their husbands from visiting them and their babies in the hospital in recent months.
"It's rewarding to serve as an extension of people's families during the pandemic," said Nurse Shelby Jones of the sisters having to experience this part of their lives together because members of the family were prohibited from visiting because of COVID protocols.
Kehinde gave birth to the 7 lbs., 21.5 oz Zoey Adedayo at 9:24 p.m. on Feb. 7, and Taiwo gave birth to the 7 lbs., 20 oz. Tony Aluko was at 1:24 a.m. on Feb. 9, both at Southwest Fort Worth's Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital.
Adedayo and Aluko both live in Arlington with their families, and the sisters express their sincere desire and plan to raise their kids together. "We were both, of course, shocked but also very excited to go through this parenthood journey together," Adedayo said.

Another twins tale
In August last year, Parent Herald covered another interesting twins tale.
Identical twins Brittany and Briana Salyers, married identical twins Josh and Jeremy Salyers, and their union was featured on TLC's Our Twinsan Wedding. They announced mid-August that they are both expecting.
The newborn announcement comes almost exactly two years after the couples tied the knot in a joint ceremony at Twinsburg, Ohio's 2018 Twins Days Festival, where they met for the first time a year prior. In the ceremony titled "Twice Upon a Time," they were married by identical twin ministers.
