Rapper Kanye West is serious about running for U.S. President in 2020. The rapper hinted that he has ambitions tolive in the White House during his speech at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) last August, and in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, he said he's "definitely" running.
The husband of Kim Kardashian believes that when he said those statements at the VMA, the public responded positively, according to People Magazine. "I didn't approach that because I thought it would be fun. It wasn't like, Oh, let's go rent some jet skis in Hawaii. No, the exact opposite," he told the magazine. However, the hip-hop star admits he needs a lot of preparations for his plans for the Oval Office. "I sit in clubs and I'm like, Wow, I've got five years before I go and run for office and I've got a lot of research to do, I've got a lot of growing up to do," Kanye said.
Kanye believes that his family background influenced him to make this choice. "My dad has two masters' degrees. My mom has a PhD, she used to work at Operation PUSH," he said. "With all the things I've done that people would consider to be accomplishments, what's the point where I become the person that Donda and Raymond West raised? My parents' child."
But the superstar also said that he hopes not to run against anyone, but instead "work" with his future political opponents. "I think all the people running right now have something that each of the other's needs," he said, according to CNN. "But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together."
Kanye cites Ben Carson, who is vying for the Republican nomination for the 2016 presidential elections, as the "most brilliant guy" and he's been trying to get in touch with him, the news outlet reported. But he was also seen throwing his support for another presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton of the Democrat party, at a recent fundraiser, according to Daily Mail.
Despite his political intentions, Kanye hasn't clearly defined which party he will be seeking support from, and as Daily Mail reported, his utmost priority right now is his family. Wife Kim is about to give birth to their second child in December.
